Our Room of the Week is largely a white box – white cabinets, white walls, white ceiling, white backsplash tile. But, color is added through the metal and wood accents, and the contrasting paint color on the kitchen island cabinets. Two-toned kitchen cabinets are currently trendy, but a trend that I think is here to stay because it works for every style and adds interest and fun to a room that’s the center of our homes.
I’ve compiled a few examples of kitchens that have beautiful two-toned kitchen cabinets. Here are a few lessons we can learn from them:
1. Put the darker color on the lower cabinets. It is visually more appealing because it grounds the space. And, keeping the color on the bottom keeps the room light and fresh in your line of sight.
2. Use lots of white to balance the color.
3. Make sure the colors you use are either both cool colors or both warm colors.
4. Sometimes a little goes a long way…you may want to only paint only the kitchen island a contrasting color, especially if it’s a darker tone.
