Design is in the Details: Bringing the Outdoors In

One of the reasons I picked this specific room to explore this week was the abundance of greenery in the room.  I love a houseplant…they bring energy and life and color to a room.  But, put the wrong pot in the wrong planter and it can look messy and outdated.

If you’ve been looking at design blogs or Pinterest recently then you’ve seen the ubiquitous fiddle-leaf fig in many well-designed homes. And while I think it’s a great houseplant and adds personality to any room, there are many other equally beautiful options.  Here are a few of my favorite picks, along with some well-designed planter options to keep the plant modern and young looking.

When I lived in San Diego we had giant beautiful banana trees in our backyard. So the first thing I did to make myself feel more at home on the opposite side of the country was to buy my own banana plant for inside.  It makes me happy every time I look at it.

And, I created this handy little guide you can take with you to the nursery to select the right plant for the lighting in your home.
