Applied Design: Family-Friendly Fabric & Flooring

One of the key ingredients to the perfect family room is that the fabric and flooring materials are perfect for the entire family.   Thye must feel good, look good, work hard, and clean up easily, so that you can have the maximum amount of fun with the least amount of stress.  The Room of the Week is a good example…there is a low-maintenance seagrass rug, a dark velvet sofa that hides stains and is very soft to the touch, wood flooring that is easy to maintain and has a long life span,  and small patterns on the pillows that hide stains.

Here are a few options that fit the four criteria (feels good, looks good, works hard and cleans up easily) for a material in a family-friendly living room:

Do you have any of these in your own home?  How have they worked for your family?

Do you have any family-friendly materials to add to the list?
