Design is in the Details: The Comfiest Bed

I got a new bed last fall – a giant king that replaced our very old queen sized bed. And ever since then I’ve had the hardest time figuring out pillows for the larger size.  How many, what combination, what sizes…it shouldn’t be so hard, right?  But, there are so many sizes and shapes to consider, as well as personal preference (my husband would prefer zero, I like a little more).

I love the pillow arrangement in the room I shared yesterday…lot of fluffy pillows in pretty colors, completely symmetrical arrangement, and one fun pattern front and center.

Here are several other pillow arrangements that caught my eye:

Here are some tips I picked up from studying the photos:

  1. When in doubt, go symmetrical.
  2. Put your most fun pattern/color/shape front and center.
  3. Start with a good neutral base – large neutral colored pillows against the headboard create a great background to showcase the rest of the pillows.
  4. If you like a crowd of pillows make sure they are an odd number…just looks more pleasing to the eye.

Here’s the arrangement I think I’ve settled on for my own bedroom:

with the symmetry and the sizes.

How many pillows are on your bed?
