The Anatomy of a Kate Jackson Room

A few weeks ago I picked a modern interpretation of a beach house as the Room of the Week, and this week I’m back with another beach house but this time it’s more of a traditional room with a modern twist (maybe you can call it transitional?).   Whatever the style Kate Jackson, the designer, calls it Coastal Chic, which is a perfectly lovely description of this bright happy room.

FYI…normally I stick to the tried & true elements and principles of design when I break down a room (harmony, emphasis, rhythm, balance, scale, pattern, texture, color, line, shape)…but this week I am adding a new one, layers, because it acts like a necessary element of design in almost every room, and especially in this room.
