My Backyard Patio Makeover: A Mexican Tile Inspired Painting

When I was working on my backyard I knew I could fill it with furniture and pillows to add color and pattern to the space, but it would still be surrounded by lots of wood fencing that isn’t very nice to look at.  So, I decided to create a large painting to fill some of the wall space.  I have always been inspired by painted Talavera tiles from Mexico.  So, I created a painting based on  this tile.

mexican-tile-painting3It’s about 3 ft. by 3 ft. and adds a lot of color to a corner of my garden.  It’s painted on wood and I covered it with Helmsman Spar Urethane so it will be protected from the weather.

mexican-tile-painting4And I added some strings of lights on a whim the other night, which my kids adore, and I find especially enchanting when they are in bed and I get to enjoy the space alone.mexican-tile-painting2
