Color Palettes: Using Tonal Colors for an Elegant Palette

Despite the bright colors and patterns in the Room of the Week it still feels very serene and elegant thanks to the all the neutral colors.  The colors used on the bed, wall, lamp and dresser all share similar tones, but their slight differences give depth and sophistication to the room, without adding busyness.

tonal colors copyWhen you put this many tones of the same color together they start to act like a neutral.  And, I put some scenarios together so you can see how this could work using different tones as your base.
