Piece de Resistance: The Classic Chesterfield Sofa (updated)

While the four-poster bed front and center in the Room of the Week undeniably commands attention, it’s the pretty purple upholstered Chesterfield underneath the window that really makes this room perfect.  Katie Rosenfeld did such an amazing job selecting a piece with a very classic, usually masculine, shape and updating it with the perfect purple  to feel modern while still keeping its traditional roots.  For years the Chesterfield sofa has been used in more masculine and formal spaces.  But, it’s being reborn this century in more modern shapes and fabrics, which allows it to feel at home in a variety of design styles.  Here are twenty of my favorites:

What’s your favorite?  Do you prefer a classic shape or do you like the modern interpretations?
