The Anatomy of a Cool Room for a Hot Summer

We’ve had a relatively cool summer here in Maryland…which means playing outside, lots of bike rides and sleeping with the windows open.  But, I’m sure temperatures will heat up this month, and we’ll be back to hiding out in our basement eating popsicle.  When we lived in San Diego I rarely thought about the temperature or how to control it, but here in Maryland I am constantly opening and closing shades and windows and turning on and off fans at night to keep things cool and comfortable.

So, for the month of August, I thought it would be fun to focus on rooms that look like great places to escape from the heat.  First up, this gorgeous living room from my new interior design favorite, Ore Studios.  The duo behind this design studio really creates such beautifully layered rooms, and this week’s is no exception.  I hope you have fun exploring this room with me…grab a popsicle and let’s go!theanatomyofacoolroomforahotsummer copy

Do you do anything special to keep your house cool during the summer?  I’d love to hear your advice!
