How to: Create a Sense of Place

One of the reasons I picked this particular kitchen as our Room of the Week is for its subtle nod to its location.  You can tell this is a coastal kitchen even though there isn’t a seashell in sight!  The pale blue wall color, rattan barstools and graphic throw pillow are all clues to the location without being overly thematic.

If you want to achieve the same effect in your own kitchen look for ways to create a sense of place using color, texture and pattern in small doses rather than adhering to an overall theme.  Here are a few ideas I put together to get you brainstorming for your own space!
