Updating Our Backyard Patio

As soon as the weather warms up I can’t help but head outdoors and start working in my garden.  It’s small which makes it really doable for me, and mostly shady with just the right amount of sunlight in the later afternoons and evenings, so it’s a really enjoyable spot for my family.  We’ve lived in our house for about three years…so this will be our third summer.  Here’s how it looked last year:

It was a fun space, but didn’t really function perfectly for our family…that small table only seated four instead of the five we needed it too and we rarely sat on the chairs outside because they just weren’t that comfortable.  So this year I’m changing things up a bit.

I magically manged to end up with a great new dining table just the right size for my backyard made by my friend’s husband, which will function as the perfect focal point and jumping off point!

Here’s the BEFORE, sans plants that haven’t sprouted yet, and only half the mulch I need…note to self, always buy double the amount of mulch you think you need!

backyardpatiobeforeNo amount of editing is going to make this photo look good…just weeks of work, which I love.  Can’t wait to get this patio cleaned up and beautified so we can enjoy it before it gets too hot!  And, I’ll share little snippets along the way over the next few months.

But first, I’m off to NYC for the weekend with my family.  See you back here on Monday.
